WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

Established in January of 2000, Many Motors has been serving the low-income community in County of Ventura ever since.

Many Motors recipients are low-income wage earning neighbors, with 87% of our clients being single mothers, struggling to stay off public benefit programs and become self sustaining. Among the others are single fathers, and veterans in need.

The ability to own a safe reliable vehicle is often out of reach for many in this population group. Many Motors is structured and exists provide the needed transportation keep that Job.  Through the acquiring of a family vehicle, these families, some for the first time, will be able to live with a semblance of normalcy. The ability to travel without the constrictions of public transportation can alleviate stress in the life of a disadvantaged family. This will take a family out of the cycle of poverty and welfare.
Many Motors began working with the County of Ventura and their CalWORKS clients as a part of California's 1996 Welfare Reform Act. A county studies have determined that transportation was one of the great barriers preventing low-income families from getting jobs and moving out of the welfare system... The County of Ventura estimates that for every family that gets off state-aid there is a direct savings of $5000 annually to government. By providing the means to get to work we are giving these families a hand up, not a hand out.

The people who have been helped by our program state that it has changed their lives. The barrier of work transportation has been eliminated. Low-Limited income wage earners are primarily service workers or care givers. This is a population that is striving towards self-sufficiency.

The impact from this program does not stop with the immediate family who has received a vehicle. Owning a vehicle reduces stress to the vehicle owner, most often a single parent. With the freedom to drive to work,   to school, or   the market the vehicle recipient can spend more time with his/her child(ren) and become a better parent and thereby keep their children out of the poverty cycle when they grow up.

Many of those qualifying for our program cannot obtain a vehicle because of high interest rates and or a poor credit history.
